For a hospitalized girl or boy, having their parents close is the most important thing.

The goal of the Ronald McDonald Houses and Salas is to keep families with sick children close when they need it most, offering them a place to stay, where to rest, meet and share, "a home away from home".

The Ronald McDonald Children's Foundation

It started when Fred Hill's three-year-old daughter, was diagnosed with leukemia. The professional football player and his wife found themselves sleeping in hospitals and doing everything possible to prevent their daughter from noticing the tension that these circumstances cause.

The Hills saw that other parents suffered the same situation. Many of them had traveled long distances to bring their children to the hospital, and did not have the money needed to cover the cost of travel, lodging and food. Fred Hill, his teammates, McDonald's restaurants and some doctors, began raising funds to help those families who were in the same situation. The first “Ronald McDonald House” was born from this initiative. Subsequently, in 1984 the Ronald Foundation was created
Ronald McDonald House Charities currently operate in 64 countries.
